Questions About Our Community
Find practical information about joining and participating in the End of Life Doula Community Australia.
The End of Life Doula Community Australia is being developed by Estella Hutchinson, a Canberra based end of life doula. You can learn more about Estella on her website, Your Sunset.
Estella has trained with a variety of providers and even worked with some - her number one commitment is to an independent community to support you where you're at in your doula-ing.
The community is still in development and the payment structure hasn't been finalised - this is where you can help shape the community by participating in the survey "tell us what you'd like in this community". It is anticipated that there will be some free parts and some low cost areas.
Participation is intended for end of life doulas* who live and work in Australia. You don't have to be running a doula 'business' - just someone who wants a community of support around this work.
*Or your preferred name - death doula, mortality doula, deathwalker, end of life consultant, transition doula, death midwife, end of life companion, the person people go to when someone is dying.
There will be free resource sharing, ongoing education, practical business support and many other things as the community grows.
Members will have access to ongoing professional development and professional supervision to support and develop their practice.
Have your say on the communities development by completing the survey - "tell us what you’d like in this community"
Members can expect connection with other practicing doulas and support that strengthens their roles while contributing to better experiences of dying in Australia.
The concept of professional supervision isn't new, it's used in other helping professions such as psychotherapy, counselling and nursing.
In the context of end of life doula's it's important because many of us work in isolation. It isn't about being 'checked up on' or being watched - it's about having a safe place to go to discuss what our work involves, reflect on experiences, discuss ethical dilemmas, build our capacity as a doula and learn from each others experience.
The full website is expected to be active by mid 2027.
